Orc Boar Boy

I bought and painted this figure for my eldest son James who is eight.  He really likes Orcs (not goblins, just orcs) which is useful because thats an army I collect and play.  I painted this figure much quicker than I usually paint and it probably shows a bit in the lack of detail.  Still it’s a nice clean job though this perhaps isn’t the best angle to view the model.

  1. The skull on the shield is very nice… it has very nice relief. I always wonder how they apply the boars war paint prior to going on the war party… must be akin to wild bronco riding ata rodeo?

I think it is so nice that you can paint a gift for your boy. I often think of painting a vignete for my partner.. still thinking… becuase you want just the right thing. I think orcs and young kids are like G Bush and tacos… they love em.

  2. Perhaps that should be the subject of your vignette, George Dubbya eating a taco. Who wouldn’t love that? I painted a cat for amber once and a few jewelery boxes.
But yeah I take your point orcs really do appeal. Definately to James at anyrate.

On that note I finished my FlaK38’s on wednesday and I think they look awesome. My best flames of war piece yet, infantry or other. (which isn’t actually saying all that much really since I had hardly set the bar very high) Squeezing them all onto the base with the gun though was tricky. Will take a photo in the weekend.

Anyway having finished them I cracked open the 40k starter box and assembled the orc warboss. Firstly what an awesome figure http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1860005_60010199005_AoBRWarboss_445x319.jpg
Not only is it nicely detailed because it’s so chunky it has a very nice clip together assembly, so no pinning. Well until that is I broke one of the pins because before I glued it I test fitted it together. Sadly the pegs and associated holes were such a snug fit I broke one of the pegs and had to then essentially manufacture a new one with greenstuff and a pin.
The other issue is the mold lines were pretty terrible in places. The type that look like the two sides of the mold have moved at some point and you get things slightly offset. and quite proud. It took me three hours last night to clean, assembly putty and base the figure. Which is uhm …pretty slow.
