Emperor’s Children Chaos Space Marines

My son is collecting Emperor’s Children. My contribution is painting them in between my Ultramarines. Essentially I paint model about or sometimes in squads of five. He has a fairly large army so it’s taking some time even with me lowering the standard of my work to try to speed it up.

As a new years resolution I’ve set myself the target of 100 modes in 1 year. I generally can’t abide new years resolutions but this was more to keep me honest and commit to the work. Honestly I really need to paint more than 100 models at the rate at which my son is collecting them, much less my own. @moahunter_nz

Ultramarines

To give my son and his Chaos Emperor’s Children army some competition I’ve started collecting Space Marines. In this case Ultramarines. I chose them because I already had a fledgling force from the old Assault on Black Reach (Captain, 10x Tac Marines, 5x Terminators, Dreadnaught).

Started with a Blood Angels starter set (Librarian, 3x Aggressors, 5x Infiltrators, 5x Intercessors, Impulsor) and then built on from there. Initially 5x Terminators, Phobos Librarian, 3x Eliminators, Roboute Guilliman. More recently purchased the Leviathan box and swapped the Librarian in that for 5x Intercessors and added to that 5x Infiltrators and Brutalis Dreadnaught.

Sylvanneth

Painted a few Sylvanneth on and off over the last couple of years as I slowly build that age of sigmar army out of my old woodelves (oh how I miss woodelves,… you suck GW)

The Arch-revenant was a Chinese resin knock-off, brittle and with many imperfections. Fixed most of them and really happy with the colour scheme. I don’t feel to bad about buying it, at the time you couldn’t buy the model and the box that it came in was sold out. I posed it differently, a better pose I think. I also think the colour scheme is nicer than the box art and I tried to do the nice effect on the blade so that it was similar to the Branchwych.

Finally got around to purchasing the old Drycha / Branchwraith model. I never liked it but the Branchwraith is a better character than the Branchwych. I think I did a good job, as much as one can with such an ugly model. The new Drycha is way nicer. Something for the future perhaps.

Branchwych is painted following the box art. It’s a pretty nice model and I really like how the scythe blade came up (the transitions are a little harsh in the photo). Also like the colour scheme on the grub.

A plain treeman in autumnal colours. I was inspired by somebody elses paint job, I think on and Ancient and tried to do it here. I’m not convinced by it and have some minor regrets, however I find the box art version even worse so <shrug>. A little OSL (object source lighting) on the spites, not my best work, not that I’d ever tried it before, but it kinda gives a vague impression. One of the spites on his… antlers? is broken, I should probably fix that.

Lastly another sixteen dryads to go with my other sixteen. Not much to say there. They’re fiddly to build and paint and they’re a little bland but actually I quite like them. I even painted one of the owls this time.
