Warhammer 8th Edition

Having now bought the FOW rule book (yes it’s taken this long) I thought I should purchase the WH rulebook.  Then reading the article about VC deathstars that martin sent a link too the other day I noticed a blog about Warhammer 8th Ed rumour roundup.  I checked this against Warseer and GW (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=&categoryId=&section=&pIndex=0&aId=9800040a&start=1) it seems certain that we’ll have 8th Ed in July (10th I think).

Thank goodness I’m lazy and haden’t bought the rulebook for 7th Ed.  Looking through the changes I kinda like them.  If they’re true of course.  As usual there is a lot of panic and tanties on Warseer which is kinda amusing since they’re prejudging something on third, forth, fifth hand rumours.  Taking everything with a healthy dose of skepticism though it looks like they’re simplifying things a bit which probably is a good thing.

Anyway check this link out http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2010/04/wfb-rumors-8th-edition-rumor-roundup.html (which is really just a roundup of what’s on warseer)

  1. Yes I noticed this too.. but alas have not had the pleasure of listening to the tormented squulings of the insane uber army collectors.

No doubt the utterances of the “nerfed!” and “demoloshed” are being cried. However as Mr Potter said to me just the other day, the Chaos, Vampire and dark elve armies will always be powerfull.. because they are selling at the moment.
At east with FOW ther is no Uber army.. e.g UK mech still take down a Tiger army if they wanted.
Italian armies can be extreemly potent on thier day. And for all the british reluctance in late ware they still have a the british bulldog rule.

Mind you a unit of Warhammer Fantasy figures is still cheaper then a FOW unit. And the terrain is easier too. But the rules and the units are way too much open to change.

  2. I don’t know. Chaos have always been powerful it’s just to what degree they are powerful at a given point. Vampires are also tough, and to be fair they need to be since their army crumbles when they die ..again. Really undead toughness comes down more to psychology, both in game and metagaming than everything in your army having a bigger stat line than your opponent. Some people seem to have trouble with them but I think once you learn how to deal with them it’s not so bad.
Dark elves though are on an upswing, probably there first ever at some point they’ll get a new army book and they’ll get toned down as a knee jerk reaction. The only blessing for Potts is that knee jerk reaction will probably take several years since the DE book is relatively new.
Contrary to Mr Potter’s suggestion there is a theory that army books wax and wane precisely so GW will sell more of them. That is you buy a Dark Elf army now because “they’re killa” and “they kick arse” (you have to say it in a small childs voice for full effect) only to later get “nerfed” in favour of Dwarves for example so young impressionable kiddies will rush out and buy the Dwarves. I don’t know if I ascribe to that idea but sometimes it’s hard to deny it looks that way.

  3. Hey! I somewhat fel like that old Captain in some gentry village in England who at the first sighn of some trouble will run around the town streets with smokers jacket, china cap, monicle and blunderbus. And dare anyone say that a blunderbus is old fashioned when nowdays we have glocks! Haa!
“Don’t kid yourself sonny Jim!, GW will double the strength of this here flintlock in seven years … you see… you seee (shaking weakened fist and flapping night gown)

    You willl seeee!

  4. However… in stone cottage in South East England….

    An old Captain …………. waits

  5. [*]S7 autokill is gone. (edit: possibly not speculation)

    eeeek!!!

It ws lucky enough to have any weapon of strength 7 let alone be able to hit a chariot….

However Mr Potters flying Vampire could probably do this very easily?

  6. [*]15 or so missions in the new rulebook. 9 or 10 of the missions required Core units to capture objectives. Units must have banners to capture objectives. Several missions had multiple objectives

Gee Light.. that’s you screwed isn’t it?

You don’t have one single banner do you?

    LOL

  7. I think the Str7 rule is silly. I get it but heck if you’ve got Str7 what ever you’re attacking is probably dead anyways. This just means big Str7 killing machines might actually have to expend a little effort before mowing over their next target.

  8. LOL yeah that “must have banners to capture objectives” is a rather interesting concept if it’s true (and it does sound reasonable).
Guess I’ll have to keep a unit of Glade Riders at the back with a standard ready to swoop in and claim the objective after it’s been secured by all those non-standard bearing troops.
That said, archers and eternal guard are also core and can have standards (though I’ve never seen any appeal to archers with standards). Perhaps I’ll have to purchase some eternal guard.
