US infantry 2x Companies Part 2

OK decided to do a full test figure before going holas bolas into the production line.

Steps are:

Base coats over black undercoat leaving the valleys

Ink coat

High light by dry brush.

And the example is here:

Base coated only photos above

Base coated and inked photos above

Base coated, inked and drybrush hi-lited above

So there you have it.

I’m happy with the result this gives.  A good tabletop paint job.

Plenty of room for errors with the brush which the shading and hi-lite errodes away.

I will have to get the helmet paint better though.. perhaps some flow medium.

I’m excited now that I see some results.. I think I should paint a trial fig on every project… just for the fun of it.

Night everyone 🙂

High Elf Elyrian Reavers

My five old school High Elf Elyrian Reavers.  When I started my woodelf army back in 1995 there were no cav models and I was desperate to have cavalry as I was and am a big fan of cav, afterall I wanted a Bretonian army.  Nevertheless whilst Glade Riders were on the cards they weren’t yet out and certainly not in my corner of the world so I purchased a box of five Elyrian Reavers.  They’re elves afterall, have bows and spears so close enough.  These are therefore another unit painted very early on in my painting ‘career’ and as is my way follows quite closely (or as closely as my skill allowed) the GW colour scheme.  At one point I sold them to somebody (having later purchased real glade riders) as high elves.  I hated myself for it an later bought them back, very embarrassing.  I still like them and still field them as Glade Riders in my wood elf army.  At some point I might re-acutalise my high elf army (I briefly had the beginnings of one though these reavers were the only painted component) and they can go back to being Reavers, albeit very old style.

US infantry 2 x companies project – part 1

Ok I have started my 2 company boxes of US infantry.

I have cleaned them and glued them to card, undercoated them primer black with colorkote spray paint, which works wonderfully well.

I have painted the boot brown and now am painting the gaters and jacket.

I have started painting them my usual way that I use with germans in field grey.

That is I paint only the high spots in colour, followed by a lighter high light and then an ink wash.

I have tried this so far with th exception of removing the high light untill after the ink and replacing the high light application with a dry brush instead.

Now faced with about 80+ figures I have been contemplating taking a “short-cut”.

Tell me which one you think will look better in the table top.
