US infantry 2x Companies Part 2

OK decided to do a full test figure before going holas bolas into the production line.

Steps are:

Base coats over black undercoat leaving the valleys

Ink coat

High light by dry brush.

And the example is here:

Base coated only photos above

Base coated and inked photos above

Base coated, inked and drybrush hi-lited above

So there you have it.

I’m happy with the result this gives.  A good tabletop paint job.

Plenty of room for errors with the brush which the shading and hi-lite errodes away.

I will have to get the helmet paint better though.. perhaps some flow medium.

I’m excited now that I see some results.. I think I should paint a trial fig on every project… just for the fun of it.

Night everyone 🙂

  1. Looks good. I think you’d probably benefit from changing your undercoat to a brown. Have been experimenting with that myself and gives good results as it’s a great base for pretty much every colour, much like grey but darker. If those black portions were in fact brown I think the contrast would be a bit smoother. But in general it looks quite good and looking down on it on a table top (rather than under the close up macro vision of a camera) I think it’ll stand out really well. Good job.

  2. Yeah brown under coat… good idea.. now htat I have uner coated all my figures…

I know what you mean.. My Imperial Fists figures ink better in brown than black. And that seems to ea community standard now for yellow power armour.

Interestingly my battalion colours for my IF was green borders to yellow power armour… looks great!

I think your elf Lord wanted to be a IF character and was playing dress ups.

  3. Well I no for a fact you still have two MG platoons and a recon platoon to go….

Yeah, you’re probably right. My woodelf lord is just dressing up as an Imperial Fist. Perhaps I should be looking at giving him a power fist or lightning claw.

  4. Well I am only half way through two platoons at present. Daunting idea.. another company to go!!!

And I have 2 Panzergrenadiers and HQ to paint too.

WInter ends in August… maybe I’ll have them done by then?

  5. I know exactly how you feel, except I don’t even really enjoy painting 15mm men. That said I’m getting better at it in accuracy, quality and speed. The W&N No.7 Sz.0 is starting to pay for itself. It’s a lovely brush to use.

Anyway have mortar com and obs teams, hmg platoon, glider assault platoon and stg44 teams then I’m done! Bought some heer pak40’s so should probably do them too, but regardless I’m close, so very close

  6. See there is some half tracks with pak 40’s on them on Trade Me. FJ used them in Greece didn’t they?

Why are my pictures all over the place…? I used the insert tools properly. ???? Stupid NextGen.

  7. Well I have 4 regular pak40’s now, unfortunately not with FJ crew but I can probably live with that. Anyway I’d rather have Marders than unweildy looking half tracks if I want mobile guns.

I’ve fixed up your pics, you should use the nextgen gallery button it’s much more predictable.

  8. Nice! … I was using the grey image button to the right of the word Insert . I will use that button now.

I think Potts has some of those Pak 40’s on Halftracks.
Your right their mobility is slightly less.
There also limited to only late war lists i.e post August 1944, just like my PzIV/70 Panzerjagers.
Which I must try and get some 75mm /40 gun barrels for from BF so I can magnet off the long ones and put short ones on.

No painting last night… I hada migrane… like the first time ever I had one of those…

  9. Well it only inserts code rather than a picture, but it’s far more predictable in how it behaves and you can copy and paste, changing the pic id to insert multiple pics quickly.

  10. A couple of days after we set this up. Guess he’s just a very busy guy. Purchasing new armies for flames of war, playing xbox and computer games, you know how it is.
