Project Panzergrenadier Kompany – Pt1

After over a year of having the two boxes of Pz Grenadiers in storage and recently purchasing a Pz GrenadierKompanie HQ box I am now going to start on finishing them.

I have a box of midwar PzG adn a box of late war PzG.  I intend to mix these butam unsure if i will mix vehicles and figures within the units or have a platoon of each separate sets.

After finding all the tracks and wheels of which some where los(but now found) I have laid them out.

Of interest is that the kHQ box has plastic tracks, mgs, wheelsetc but my two platoon boxs have the metal ones. I am unsure if the current box sets are still the same.

Also I purchased an individual HT when Toyworld Dunedin was selling the stand off cheap.  So I have one extra HT now. That is because the HQ box is so excellent it has three HT’s one for the Panzer shreck team too.

All  three box sets and plus one HT.  The HQ are not painted.

As you can see above I have already painted two platoons with an airbrush. Mr Light and I had a good session airbrushing about a year ago.  We were both reasonable happy with the results. And so many tanks and  so many tanks and HT’s .. what was it 21 Tanks and eight HT’s, 6 Marder II’s, 12 trucks,4 jeeps, etc etc.. would have been in excess of 40  vehicles.

Here is a nice surprise in the HQ box, 1 HT has stowage moulded onto it.

stowage on

One is a standard clean vehicle.

One has track armour on the front armour plate and a panzershreck on the weapons rack in the interior. Cool or waht? (said in german accent?)

Panzershreck

So there you have it…  some nice surprises and some cool work to look forward to seeing progress on.

However don’t forget… ther are Panthers and elephants in the jungle just waiting to pounce out on the next blogs!!!

Black Elephants – Part II

The Elephants received their primer coat tonight.  As explained in the Panthers post the Primer paint is Color Kote. Metal primer. It went on very shiney and appeared thick but it shrinks and dries very fast and with a wonderfull dull surface finish.

I havn’t much comment to add further on the tanks themselves so I will let teh pictures entertain…

Black Panthers – panther platoon Pt 2

I used poly kote metal primer to spray paint the stripped ad new Panthers.

Poly Kote is an acrylic metal primer and is dull finish.

I was surprised at what appeared to be heavy cote dried very thin. Some interior corners didn’t receive an application but this is more a symptom of my sweep and pass spray technique than a problem with the spray pattern.

You will notice some green and grey areas wher the cote is not covering.

Platoon make up is:                         Advance Panthers

Kompanie HQ – peaked cap commander at cupola. Bare hands at rest.

Kompanie HQ 2ic – Closed cupola but has front track guards removed.

All non command tanks have a spare road wheel on the right hand side of the turret.

Plt HQ – soft cap commander at cupola with binoculars in hands.

Plt Panthers – closed cupolas with spare road wheel.

Plt Panther 2ic has a set of expelled shell casings on the rear deck.  These casings are putty rolls. As they are Milliput I will be able to file and shape them in place to tidy up the shapes a bit better. But with correct painting you won’t notice any sculpting defects in these.

The thin Shurzen panels will be painted and attached seperatly at later date as some pinning will be required. These will be blue-tacked onto the tanks after dunkelgelb application so that the airbrushed pattern in brown and green will match up with the tank hull side patterns. Pinning and fixing will follow after the tracks and road wheels are detailed properly.

Anyways… here is the picture.shells on deck of Panther
