British Armoured Squadron and Support

Ok because I said I would here is my amoured squadron and support. (less the AA tanks and the comets, and the churchills…)

What we have there in total is

HQ:
2x Cromwell iv, 2x Cromwell vi (CS)
Combat Platoons (x3):
3x Cromwell iv, 1x Sherman vc (Firefly)
Weapons Platoons:
3x Stuart v
6x Universal Carriers
Support Platoons :
2x Motor Platoon (4x M5 Halftrack, 3x MG team, 1x Command MG team, 1x PIAT team, 1x Light Mortar team)
1x Armoured Car Platoon (2x Daimler Armoured Car, 2x Daimler Dingo)

In effect there are a few more infantry stands but it seemed wrong to leave them out.

Sherman VC (Firefly)

One of my three Sherman Fireflys… fireflies?… VCs.  Adds some decent punch to the Cromwell platoons giving me a taste of what it might be like to run proper tanks like the Germans and the Russians.  The photo doesn’t look much, actually these closeups of my flames of war stuff are rather disappointing particularly when compared to the Games Workshop stuff.  Granted it’s only half the scale but I think I could and should do better, it’s just that it’s not as fun to paint.  Anyway, will go back at some point and fix all my british armour up, add stowage and the like and well some more coats of varnish on the tracks.

Stuart V

One of my three little Stuart V tanks which alongside my armoured squadron (which I seem to no longer be able to field) are pound for pound probably my consistently best achieving models.  I like the Stuarts so much that I have considered purchasing more but I figure that my be taking a good thing to far.  I think there success lies in the fact they’re… well, a tank,  but at least in an armoured squadron a small and insignificant threat when compared to the main battle tanks.  This combined with their speed allows them to get in and behind the enemy, opportunistically seizing objectives and generally causing disruption far beyond their meager points value.  If I took more I think the comparative threat assessment would be considered differently and they would probably have more resource directed at nullifying them and thus their ability to achieve anything would be drastically reduced.

As for the model, they’re such a funny little (by which I mean really quite quite small) boxy tank with a high profile, (so not out of place amongst shermans and cromwells).  Rather endearing really which only adds to the affection for them.  Great little battlers.
