Skaven Clanrats

One of two units of Tommy’s (my youngest sons) clanrats from the Island of Blood set.  Have one more unit of twenty after this one and I’ll be finished the rat men (or at least until we get some more).  They’re good enough I think, nothing special and to be honest I really didn’t enjoy my time painting them.  They were glued before priming and some of the gaps between the weapon arm and the body were tricky to paint, I’m not real fond of painting flesh tones and there were twenty of them blighters.  I freehanded the banner, not my best work but it’ll do, certainly passable tabletop paint work.

Konigstiger Panzer

Here are my two king tigers.  Bought a pack of three and Martin took one I took two

They’ve been sitting in my cupboard (like everything I have) primed and ready to be painted for about three years.  I guess about six months ago I attacked them with the airbrush and got some base coat and camo pattern on them, they then sat idle until I painted Michael Potters panzer grenadiers last year.  After painting Mikes Tiger and Stugs I figured it was high time that I finish these.

As it is I might do a bit more weathering on them but that could take many more months so I figured I’d photograph them and stick them up.

Pretty happy with them, they look reasonably tidy and again they look a touch better in person/tank than the harsh light of the photo.  Part of the reason for holding off on them like I do a lot of expensive models is I want to do a really good job and I’m often unsure whether I’m in the right frame of mind or practiced enough to do such work.  Problem is I find I’m always second guessing myself and regardless any paint job looks better than primer or raw model.  My airbrushing skills could do with a bit of work and it’s that that I’m probably least pleased with on the model.

No idea when I’ll ever play a game where I can fit to king tigers though.

Devlan Mud home made wash – alternative ingrediant

Painted some more of the airborne troops in the past week.
Made up some more Devlan Mud home made wash too.
The new wash has a different ingredient however.

Because the brown ink is so hard to source and if you can it is so very expensive I used some brown dye instead.
The dye is used in schools and because it is a powder depending on how you mix it up gives you either a dye, drawing ink or other.

So I tried it and it works very well.. in fact I think it works better than ink.

“devlan mud” style wash is:
3 drops elmer’s (1.03ml)
10 drops matte medium (3.44ml)
5 drops water (1.72ml)
10 drops brown ink (3.44ml)
1 drop black ink (0.344)

10ml / 29ml =0.344ml
