Warhammer 40K

Thanks to a 30% off voucher the boys and I purchased the 40K Assault on Black Reach starter box. Fantasy wise Tommy likes Skaven and James likes Orcs. Since theres a better than even chance I will purchase the Fantasy Box that comes out in July which has Skaven in it (and give them to Tommy) I felt I should probably do something for James. Given that I already have an Orc & Goblin Fantasy army and James has shown quite an interest in 40K (he plays Dawn of War II a lot on the computer) and he’s very fond of Orks I thought pursuing the 40K route might be worth a shot. So with the box set down to $92 in which you get 26 Orks and 3 helicopters as well as 16 Space Marines and a Dreadnaught to play against, and a rule book too I think it’s probably a pretty good score. Now of course Tommy wants Tyranids. (Skaven and Tyranids, both horde armies, fantastic). Anyway my backlog of unpainted figures is ever increasing.

I’ve got to say though the thought of playing 40K still doesn’t excite me, though I think the rule book changed since I stopped, painting them should be fun. And perhaps 40K will be quicker and easier for the boys to get to grips with. It’s nice to have kids who share your interests.

On that note I varnished my two FJ platoons this weekend, my recoiless guns and my kettenkrads. Almost finished the FlaK38 crews now too. I have a simple green bath soaking my wardancers and a bunch of LOTR figures Martin gave me. So slowly ticking things over.

Project Panzergrenadier Kompany – Pt1

After over a year of having the two boxes of Pz Grenadiers in storage and recently purchasing a Pz GrenadierKompanie HQ box I am now going to start on finishing them.

I have a box of midwar PzG adn a box of late war PzG. I intend to mix these butam unsure if i will mix vehicles and figures within the units or have a platoon of each separate sets.

After finding all the tracks and wheels of which some where los(but now found) I have laid them out.

Of interest is that the kHQ box has plastic tracks,mgs,wheelsetc but my two platoon boxs have the metal ones. I am unsure if the current box sets are still the same.

Also I purchased an individual HT when Toyworld Dunedin was selling the stand off cheap. So I have one extra HT now. That is because the HQ box is so excellent it has three HT’s one for the Panzer shreck team too.

As you can see above I have already painted two platoons with an airbrush. Mr Light and I had a good session airbrushing about a year ago. We were both reasonable happy with the results. And so many tanks and so many tanks and HT’s .. what was it 21 Tanks and eight HT’s, 6 Marder II’s, 12 trucks,4 jeeps,etc etc.. would have been in excess of 40 vehicles.

Here is a nice surprise in the HQ box, 1 HT has stowage moulded onto it.

One is a standard clean vehicle.

One has track armour on the front armour plate and a panzershreck on the weapons rack in the interior. Cool or waht? (said in german accent?)

So there you have it… some nice surprises and some cool work to look forward to seeing progress on.

However don’t forget… ther are Panthers and elephants in the jungle just waiting to pounce out on the next blogs!!!

Night Goblin Fanatics

These are my Night Goblin Fanatics just like the title says. Decided to stick all three up at once because well I don’t know really but I did.

I broke the chain on the second one so pinned, glued and puttied around the chain. Looks pretty rubbish in this photo (probably thanks to my photochopping) but it looks more like a bit of leather in real life. I painted one red because I liked the red robed night goblins and I think this turned out pretty well. Better than I expected at any rate. Was the first figure I painted after something like a four year break from painting figures.
