Proposal – checking the waters

Hey guys I have been thinking about playing some modern 15mm skirmish just for the fun of it.

I have looked at some rules and ambush alley seems to be a popular set at the moment.

I was wondering if you guys could let me know what type of modern armies you like the sound of.

I am thinking of getting either Eureka minis or rebel minis. Eureka are Australian so I kinda prefer them. Also you can buy individual soldiers in 15mm with them.

I like Soviet or Serbian / kosovo and my second choice is PLA Chinese.

Ambush alley rules… hugly supported… the new FOW I think.
Ambush alley games

But any of your thoughts are good.. I like the idea I can re-use my FOW terrain.

  1. Well I think I found the rebel minis but couldn’t see any modern 15mm Eureka minis.
Could you send/post a link or two? Then I might be better able to answer your question.
Do you have the rules or know how it plays? I assume it’s fairly cheap to start since they’re 15mm scale and it’s a skirmish game?

  2. Updated post with links that work and some extra info on rules books and the like.

Very much a beter beer drinking game I think?

  3. Ok, well I went to irregularminatures where you can actually see some of the figures. I think if I”m honest I far prefer the look of the Rebel minatures from what I can see.
As for what army, I’m still not sure what the choice is out of, though obviously what minatures you can buy is a good start of course. But with regard to the rules so Force on Force is for Afghan and US forces by the look of it, but is there any scope for other forces is there a generic set that you can kinda customize …?
From my quick look on the Ambush Alley site I couldn’t see that kinda info.
From the minis, I like them all, though perhaps my tendancies lean toward US (can’t believe I said that) or perhaps African military.

  4. The irregular minitures site you found appears to be English.
The irregular minitures site I found is Austrailian… htey sell them through Eureka miniatures.

LOL you like the US models… wow.. I can’t believe you said that!

I was expecting you to say Taliban or Cyprus desenters or Tamil tigers.

    African military. Cool.

Also think about wht type of vehicles you may end up with too.

Most end up with a toyota ute with an HMG on it.

I still like the idea of a set of Serbian military (Yugosavian) or Croats.

Saw a site with some awsome Coats in it, they were converted by additions of hoodies and other more civilian looking garments.

I like it but the whole feeling of them being butchers in Europes most bloody modern war doesn’t sit well with me.. but someone has to be the prtagonist.?

Then I like the French.. but other than peace keeping roles.. I’m unsure they ever saw combat…??? Except for Kosovo?

  5. QRF figures are ok… but my experiance is not to buy the vehicles as they often appear smaller than scate and are very heavy and need alot of cleaning up.

But if they are the only one that sells a vehicle type.. then why not.

Skytrex are great… have purchased from them before.
Peter Pig are the best… but you need to appreciate the sculpting style. The vehicles are par excellance.

    Cannon fodder look nice.

Oh look they have your favourite! http://www.blazeaway.com.au/MUS5.JPG

I’m thinking rebel too… and some Peter pig… Peter pig have some .30 and .50 cal and mortars separatley..

  6. That would be because irregular miniatures are uk, eureka are obviously just a reseller. I was only interested in the uk site because it had some pictures.

Yeah the Kosovo war was pretty awful, it’s understandable that it’d feel awkward playing those forces. However for my part I think you just have to distance yourself from that. Afterall if you think of it we play Germans, not exactly the model of human decency but then neither is war as a whole and we are playing wargames.

I’m not sure where or if the French have fought anywhere, don’t think it really matters though does it?

Yeah I think both QRF and Cannonfodder figures looked a bit tall and skinny?
I forgot about skytrex, yes some of their vehicles are very pretty. Hmm maybe should go British so I can have a challenger tank mmmm.

Saw the snipers in ghillie suits, very cool.

Yep I’m really liking Rebel and Peter Pig. Would like to see what rules we’re playing first though so I knew what figures I need to buy, how many, vehicels etc…
